Korean Film Council submits ‘Parasite’ as Oscar contender

The South Korean film ‘Parasite,’ which won
this year’s Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, has been submitted as a contender
for Best International Feature… at next year’s Academy Awards. The Korean Film Council, on Thursday, chose
the black comedy by director Bong Joon-ho. The council said,… it chose ‘Parasite’ over
the seven other candidates… because the film and its director are both already globally
renowned… and because it has enough artistic quality to represent Korea. ‘Parasite’ was the first Korean film to win
the top prize at Cannes earlier this year. It’s attracted more than 10 million moviegoers
since it was released less than three months ago.
